At From Seed, we are committed to transforming how communities, businesses, and local authorities collaborate to create greener, more connected cities. In areas like Islington, where only 13% of the borough is accessible greenspace, we work to reconnect people with nature to improve well-being, reduce reliance on imported food, and foster sustainable living.
In a world dominated by greenwashing, we offer an alternative. Our approach is rooted in radical listening, environmental stewardship, and community collaboration. We don’t prescribe solutions—we listen to what local communities need, then bring our expertise in sustainability, permaculture, and indigenous knowledge to co-create lasting solutions.
We work with corporations to realign their social responsibility efforts, ensuring their impact is felt directly in the communities they serve. At the same time, we help local authorities foster trust and cooperation with their residents. By addressing the root causes of today’s issues—climate change, food insecurity, and social disconnection—we’re building a healthier future for both people and the planet.
Our vision is simple: thriving green spaces, empowered communities, and corporations that put people and the environment first. Join us as we work towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient world.
From Seed, We Grow
Our Founder
Mariana Martins

Mariana has lived around the world. She has lived in many European cities as well as in the countryside and with different indigenous peoples. For her it’s always been a priority to integrate wherever she went. Being originally from Lisbon, a city completely transformed by foreign influx where tourism and migration gone wrong has made locals feel like they don’t belong in their home.
Mariana has strived to not cause the same feeling in the communities where she settled over the years.
Her deep desire to belong, learn and grow with everyone she met, led her to create From Seed.
She has a diverse background spanning across translation, care work, permaculture, photography and business management.
Centred in radical listening, she understands that each community is a different ecosystem.
No one solution fits all. It is with this mindset that she approaches and tackles each project.
